Ebba Bucht Lugani

chairwoman and consultant Stockholm

I have done a lot of different things in my life. When I was young I was an elite tennis player and a model in Paris. I then went to Stockholm School of Economics and did investment banking in London a couple of years. I first found my way in my career “ as myself” when I became CEO of the fashion company House of Dagmar and then continued on that path as CEO of Björk & Berries. During those years I also had two kids and had two children and now I have been working a couple of years as a consultant “CEO for hire” to have more time for the family and myself. Currently I work a lot with Ida Sjöstedt which is very exciting. I also recently became the chairwoman of the up and coming Paris/Swedish brand Aéryne, which I am very proud of.

What drives you? What does ‘making a difference’ mean to you?

What drives me nowadays is love, happiness and positive energy.

The area where I want to make a difference is equality. Ever since I started to work I have realised and experienced how different the conditions are for men and women in society and in the business world. I prefer to work with women and modern men.  By working as a CEO and Chairwoman I hope to make way for many more women. I do everything I can to inspire women to reach their goals, and also to balance the extremely hard task of being a mother and pursuing a career. My goal is that later in life I can engage in feminism fulltime – but first I need to infiltrate the systemJ

Tell us a story from your past that has really shaped you. What did you learn?

One thing that I think about often is how I as a young girl could be down in a tennis match with match points against me and then managed to turn it around and win the match. It was such an amazing feeling and I did not realised then of course how much this strengthen me for life. Cause in life you can have really rough periods but then you come back stronger then even before. If there is something I want to give my kids, it is the positive experience from sports - it is such a great learning for life.

If you could travel back in time… what piece of advice would to give to yourself ten years ago?

To put my health as priority number one.

What does your morning routine look like? How do you maintain balance in your life? What bio or life hack would you like to share with the world?

My mornings are quite intense, as one needs to get the whole family out of the door on time. I cant really say that I have a morning routine. On the weekends however we always take it so easy in the mornings. I stay in my robe for hours drinking coffee and reading the newspaper – and then hit the gym, to start the day in the best way.

When are you most happy? Where is your happy place?

I am the happiest together with my family in our country house in a small fishing village in the south of Sweden. I love to be with my husband, my kids and also my brother and his family and my parents. Family is very important to me.  I am the happiest if I manage to start the day with a morning run, a swim and then breakfast in the garden… and maybe even a tennis in the afternoon!

What’s your favorite type of training? Why is training important for you and your career?

My favourite sport is still tennis- the tennis court is where I can be myself completely and where I feel the most at home as I grew up on the tennis court. I also love so many other forms of workout; Thai boxing, dance, Yoga, Pilates, Cycle, Barre, Megaformer and I also enjoy plain gym classes (like circuits). Recently I have become hooked on Bikram- and yin- and restorative yoga. The things that I really need are more long walks and running, which my knees sometimes put a stop to.

Working out is everything for me. I think it is the one biggest reason behind all the things I have accomplished in my life. When I was younger my tennis training made me much more focused when studying to get good grades- and nowadays training makes me better in the office and better as a mom.. and wife. And most of all working out makes me so HAPPY!

What’s next? What are your ambitions for the future?

After a few cozy years with a lof of focus on the family I am starting to feel more energy to work more again. Next week I am off to Paris Fashion week with Aéryne. I also have another exciting work position coming up soon and my goal is to try to balance these two new jobs with sticking to my working out routines to stay healthy and happy.
