Asa Steinars

Photographer Reykjavik

My name is Ása Steinars, I’m a travel photographer and social media fanatic. Growing up on Iceland, surrounded by fascinating landscape and forever changing weather has given me a tight bond to nature and it's forces. I love being out photographing the ever-changing landscapes and exploring secret hot springs. I currently work as a freelancer as photographer, influencer and model. I’m based on Iceland but spend most of my time traveling around the world on different projects.

What drives you? What does ‘making a difference’ mean to you?

I always want to get better and learn more how I can develop my photography. It pushes me if I know I can try new ideas or visit new places I have never been before. For me it's much about the creation and to see ideas become into work is a great feeling. Photography is a very male dominated world and I’m passionate about showing that females can take just good pictures and go out on adventures.

Tell us a story from your past that has really shaped you. What did you learn?

When I was 16 I moved to Norway on my own to get a summer job. I didn’t want to get a regular job on Iceland as most of my friends did. The challenge of living abroad at young age shapes you in so many ways. Being independent and getting a big international network was really valuable for me.

If you could travel back in time… what piece of advice would to give to yourself ten years ago?

Follow your dreams, don’t hold back and don’t care what other people think about you or what you “should” be doing.

What does your morning routine look like? How do you maintain balance in your life? What bio or life hack would you like to share with the world?

The best mornings for me is waking up before sunrise, quick cup of coffee then out on a hike to stand on top of a mountain when the first sunlight comes up from the horizon. I try to spend as much time as possible in nature. That in combination with good sleep and exercise is my life hacks.

When are you most happy? Where is your happy place?

Sitting in a hot spring in Iceland. Ideally in a snow storm, surrounded by snowcapped mountains with good friends around me.

What’s your favorite type of training? Why is training important for you and your career?

I love anything outside. Running is my go to exercise but I do a lot of hiking and skiing as well. If I have to be indoor cross fit is my choice.

What’s next? What are your ambitions for the future?

I want to grow my personal brand, develop my photography and hopefully get to work more in Arctic, Greenland and polar expeditions.
